ISAH – 18th International Congress on Animal Hygiene

19th March 2017 @ 12:00 am - 23rd March 2017 @ 12:00 am

This year the Congress is focused on one health, a concept supported by the World Organization for Animal Health and the World Health Organization that allows to globally, collaboratively and integrally broach animal health and public health. Animal hygiene is a pillar to both, producing food without considering these factors would be senseless.

Since such a concept identifies the synergy among animals, humans and environment, it is a constant within these congresses, which give continuity to international collaborations that have been periodically taking place. And is precisely this continuity that has laid the foundations to establish new paradigms at the national level.

Dominant animal production methods have widely contributed to global warming and they have also led to the use and abuse of antibiotics and hormones, causing one of the current more persistent public health problems: antibiotic resistance. Other themes to be discussed are the generation of genetically modified organisms during agricultural production and the necessity of generating indicators of animal welfare during production.

It is the duty of veterinary medicine, and other professions related to health, to guarantee higher levels of health for the 21st century human population. One Health is a global strategy to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and communications in all aspects of health care for humans, animals and environment.
