Projects

Improve resistance of field beans to legume fatigue pathogens and black bean aphid (Aphis fabae) & green pea aphid (A. pisum) infestations. (FABA Robust)

Summary

FABA Robust addresses this need for action by identifying adequate resistance/tolerance properties from a genetically diverse material based on a systematic analysis of the two biotic stressors and by narrowing down their genetic determinants. For this purpose, it is planned to carry out crosses of promising resistance donors with non-resistant elite varieties on the one hand, which are on a high level in other criteria crucial for cultivation and utilization and are relevant for practice. Thus, a multiparental mapping population will be established, which will be used for genetic mapping of fungal resistance and, depending on the genetic architecture, will eventually lead to the development of molecular markers or estimation of genome-wide marker effects. Such knowledge will be taken up by practical breeding and combined with excellent agronomic and quality traits to increase the biotic resistance of common bean.
