Dr Jelly Senyagwa Chang’a is a veterinarian graduated from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania in 2001. She is current a Director of Research and Technology Development at Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency. She possesses a PhD in Veterinary Science and Medicine from Norwegian School of Veterinary Medicine, Norway graduated in 2012. Dr Chang’a has long experience in animal disease research and diagnostic assays & bioinformatics. She has been involved in a number of projects particularly on surveillance and diagnosis of transboundary animal diseases include African swine fever, Peste Piteti Ruminantia, Lumpy Skin Diseases, Porcine respiratory diseases, Rift valley fever, Cryptosporidiosis, rabies and others. Currently, she is leading Tanzania team on project entitled Promoting Sustainable and Climate Change Adaptive Cattle Production in Tanzania by Strengthening Livestock Health through vaccine development and awareness creation and Capacity development towards standard small ruminants’ diseases diagnosis in Tanzania. Dr. Chang’a has also been involved in various studies aimed at improving livestock health in Tanzania. For instance, she authored a longitudinal observational study on calf health and growth in smallholder dairy farms in Mvomero and Njombe districts. The study monitored the clinical health and growth of dairy calves from 121 smallholder dairy farms over one year, aiming to understand the factors affecting calf growth and health in these regions. Dr Chang’a has been attended several national and international conferences and symposium where she has presented more than 20 papers orally and inform of posters. To date, Dr. Chang’a has published 19 papers in peer reviewed journals.
