Dr. Farah Gonul AYDIN is an Assistant Professor Dr. at Ankara University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Her academic expertise spans veterinary pharmacology and toxicology, aquatic animal health, antimicrobial resistance, environmental risk assessment, and One Health-oriented research. She completed her PhD at Ankara University, focusing on antimicrobial resistance in aquatic environments, and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research on the environmental effects of pharmaceuticals and endocrine-disrupting compounds. Her research integrates aquatic veterinary medicine, environmental toxicology, and translational approaches, with particular emphasis on antimicrobial resistance, biofilm-related challenges, aquatic animal welfare, pharmaceutical safety, and biosafety in aquatic systems. As the Director of Ankara University’s Aquatic Experimental Animal Center (ADHAM), Dr. Aydın leads and supports research using aquatic and amphibian experimental models, particularly zebrafish. The center provides infrastructure for controlled studies on toxicity testing, environmental safety assessment, pharmaceutical and chemical evaluation, host–pathogen interactions, treatment responses, and experimental disease modelling. These model systems generate predictive data for drug safety screening, environmental impact assessment, and disease research, contributing to scientific innovation and evidence-based decision-making at the interface of animal, human, and environmental health. In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dr. Aydın is actively involved in international collaboration and policy-oriented initiatives. She serves as the WAVMA Director for the Middle East and is a member of the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform, contributing to multidisciplinary dialogue, capacity building, and global efforts to strengthen antimicrobial resistance strategies and sustainable aquatic health management in collaboration with organizations such as WOAH, WHO, and FAO. Dr. Aydın was awarded the WAVMA Aquatic Veterinarian Certification (CertAqV), becoming the first recipient in Türkiye. This distinction reflects her commitment to advancing aquatic veterinary medicine and promoting responsible, innovative, and sustainable approaches within veterinary, environmental, and One Health research.
