Safety and Efficacy Assessment of African Swine Fever Vaccines For Use in the Dominican Republic

Objectives & Deliverables

Objective:
The objective of this collaboration is to assess the safety and efficacy of ASF vaccines under commercial swine production in the Dominican Republic. Experimental studies may be designed and executed under natural conditions of pig production in Dominican Republic. Execution of the studies will provide the cooperator scientific information to inform decisions regarding the use of vaccine to support the control and eradication of ASF in the Dominican Republic.

Challenges

Approach:
Safety studies will be implemented to compare pigs vaccinated with ASF vaccines with unvaccinated pigs maintained under identical conditions. For every vaccinated pig, a control pig will be selected and monitored, but not vaccinated. The direct output will be the incidence of complications associated with the use of ASF vaccines when administered under controlled and appropriate field conditions.
