Development of postbiotic drinking water feed supplement

Summary

The main objective of the research plan is to examine the potential use of anti-Salmonella
substance secreted by Bacillus velezensis strain BX77 as a functional drinking water-or
feed supplement to mitigate Salmonella carriage of broiler chickens. To this end, the BX77
secreted substance will be produced using large-scale fermentation in a specialized plant-derived medium and growth conditions. The spent medium prepared from the fermentation
will be used following dilution or dehydration as a drinking water supplement or dry
supplement. Salmonella carriage in the chicken cecum will be determined. Potential
adverse effects on the production of broilers (weight gain and livability) will also be
assessed
