Projects
Construction of a combined recombinant vaccine against Lumpy Skin Disease Virus and Bovine Ephemeral Fever Virus and evaluation of its safety and immunogenicity.
Summary
Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) belongs to the poxviridae family (genus Capripoxvirus). The virus causes random outbreaks of Lumpy skin disease in cattle in Israel presented with characteristic skin lesions, fever, swallowed lymph nodes, lack of appetite and reduction in milk production. In Israel, the cows are vaccinated using the vaccine strain Neethling that is produced in South Africa and had shown good efficacy in prevention of the disease but with limited long lasting immunogenicity. Thus, it is recommended to boost every year to keep vaccination potency.
