New Survey Reports Published on Priority Research Needs for Crustaceans, Molluscs and Amphibians

STAR IDAZ International Research Consortium (IRC), in collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), has published three new survey reports highlighting global research priorities for aquatic animal health in crustaceans, molluscs and amphibians.

The reports present the outcomes of the 2025 Global Consultation on Aquaculture Health Research and provide a consolidated, expert-driven assessment of key research needs to support sustainable aquatic animal production and health management.
The reports identify priority areas including high-impact and emerging diseases, affordable and field-adapted diagnostic tools, alternatives to antimicrobials, biosecurity measures, and the influence of environmental drivers on aquatic animal health.

The newly published reports cover:
• Crustaceans: https://www.star-idaz.net/report/aquaculture-health-research-survey-crustaceans-section/
• Molluscs: https://www.star-idaz.net/report/aquaculture-health-research-survey-molluscs-section/
• Amphibians: https://www.star-idaz.net/report/aquaculture-health-research-survey-amphibians-section/

Together with the previously published finfish reports, these publications contribute to a comprehensive global research agenda for aquatic animal health and support efforts to guide research investment and international collaboration in this field.

STAR IDAZ warmly thanks all experts who participated in the online consultation and shared their knowledge and insights. Their contributions were essential in shaping a robust and globally relevant research agenda for aquatic animal health.

We also acknowledge the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and our sponsors for their continued support in advancing coordinated, science-based solutions for aquatic animal health: the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the European Commission, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Discontools, the Norwegian Veterinary Institute (NVI), GALVmed and the Gates Foundation.

The reports are available within the Aquatic Diseases Priority Topic section of the STAR IDAZ website.
