STAR IDAZ publishes new report Investing in research with a One Health approach
STAR IDAZ IRC has published a report exploring the funding landscape for projects and initiatives that take a One Health approach to research and implementation. It builds on the Mapping One Health: An Exploration of the Global Funding Landscape for One Health Research report, which was produced by the STAR IDAZ IRC One Health Working Group, as well as the Quadripartite One Health Joint Plan of Action (OH JPA), to consider available funding sources and mechanisms.
The report, Investing in research with a One Health approach highlights the benefits of incentivising and working with the private sector, such as through public-private partnerships, or sponsorship of events and activities. It also emphasises the importance of domestic resource mobilisation and co-investment for ownership and sustainability.
Several challenges for funding One Health projects are identified, along with possible solutions to tackle them. The report also advocates for greater dialogue between different funders and between funders and researchers, to help ensure effective matchmaking of relevant projects with available funding, more efficient use of resources and less duplication. The report will be of interest to a diverse range of One Health stakeholders, but especially researchers, funders, programme owners and resource partners.
