Dr. Monicah Maichomo is a seasoned veterinary scientist and the Director of the KALRO - Veterinary Research Institute, with over 25 years of impactful service in veterinary science and livestock agriculture. She has led several research initiatives focused on livestock disease control (infectious diseases, vector borne diseases, One health including zoonoses & AMR), food safety, welfare and health of working equines, and improved livelihoods, while steering the institute’s strategic direction to foster innovation and cross-sectoral collaboration. With more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, her work has significantly advanced veterinary medicine and livestock productivity. Dr. Maichomo has served on numerous national professional committees, contributing to the development of science-based veterinary policies and standards. A committed mentor, she has nurtured early-career scientists, and her research has impacted food security, sustainability, and economic development for farming communities.
