Brief Profile
Faraj Bakkar
Senior Veterinarian & Strategic Consultant | Senior Strategic Expert Advisor to the Chief Veterinary Officer and the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH).
About Me:
With over 22 years of professional experience in preventive medicine and veterinary public health, I specialize in the epidemiological surveillance and control of high-impact transboundary animal diseases. I am deeply committed to the One Health approach, actively working to integrate human, animal, and environmental health sectors into national policies and disease surveillance frameworks.
As a national focal point and ambassador for regional antimicrobial resistance (AMR) control initiatives, I actively engage with international frameworks—including the African Union and FAO—to advance global health security. My recent strategic focus includes modernizing sustainable livestock value chains and establishing equine disease-free zones (EDFZ) to facilitate safe international animal movement.
How to Engage with Me:
I welcome collaborations, knowledge exchange, and partnerships within the STAR-IDAZ community on the following topics:
One Health & AMR: Developing multisectoral surveillance frameworks and regional AMR control strategies.
Transboundary Animal Diseases: Sharing best practices, contingency planning, and epidemiological data science applications.
Biosecurity & Livestock Modernization: Implementing international biosecurity protocols and technical standards for specialized livestock and equine sectors.
Global Health Leadership: Networking to foster institutional partnerships between national centers and global health networks.
